Editors, journalists, officials and employees working for the East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL) on Tuesday accorded a warm reception to Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Sayem Sobhan Anvir for winning India’s most prestigious award — Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Awards-2017.
He was given the award for the valuable contribution of Bashundhara Group, the country’s leading business conglomerate, to the mass media, social service and sports. Sayem Sobhan, also the Managing Director of EWMGL, is behind all success of the media outlets and their contribution to the realm of free, fair and objective journalism in the country.
“This achievement is for Bangladesh, for the media. All credit goes to the East West Media Group Ltd as the award was given for the outstanding contribution of the media,” said Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
He thanked all and urged them to continue their effort to achieve more success in days to come.

“No-one from Bangladesh received this prestigious award earlier.
It is a milestone for Bangladesh. Someone may get this award in the future, but Sayem Sobhan Anvir is the pioneer,” he said.
Editor of the daily Bangladesh Pratidin Naem Nizam termed the success an extraordinary achievement for the country and subcontinent as well and said it’s a matter of pride having such an award.

Sayem Sobhan is the first Bangladeshi to have received such an iconic award. Indian poet, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar handed over the award to him at a grand gala at the auditorium of Mumbai St Andrew’s College on Friday last.
