Rangpur Riders, one of the popular cricket sensations of the prestigious Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20, started its fresh journey under the care of country’s leading industrial and business conglomerate – the Bashundhara Group- after a successful patronisation deal done at a hotel in the city on Monday evening.
Vice-Chairman of the Bashundhara Group and the President of the Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited Safwan Sobhan Tasvir has taken over the ‘Sohana Sports Limited’ as the Managing Director.

The takeover, according to the sports analysts, would not only make the cricket team capable from all respects to become successful in clinching the championship trophy of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 but also help to set up new trends in the history of the country’s cricket arena.
The new management team includes Mostafa Azad Mohiuddin – Chairman, Naimur Rahman Durjoy MP- Advisor, Javed Iqbal and Mizanur Rahman – Directors, Ishtiaque Sadeque- Chief Executive Officer.
The Managing Director at a function marking the takeover announcement said that he would do everything possible for ultimate promotion of cricket in the country by providing the team with all modern facilities including coach, physio and players.
“It is really a great moment for the Bashundhara Group to announce the sharing in the sports arena. As a member of this sports-loving family, I have volunteered to take over the charge of the Rangpur Riders as Managing Director. I have comprehensive plans to reclaim the club’s glory and make it the top club in BPL. It is my firm belief that overall image of the club will be enhanced in years to come. I seek wholehearted support and cooperation from the media. I am sure you will help me accomplish the challenging task,” the new Managing Director of the club Safwan Sobhan Tasvir said.
“I have an excellent team already with me. This is my first journey in BPL. Our family always involved in sports and Sports is in our blood,” he added.

Besides, Sayem Sobhan Anvir’s uncle, legendary sports personality and a member of the world champion of the then Pakistan Hockey Team in 1969-70 Abdus Sadek was also present on the occasion.
Bashundhara Group is always a premier patron of sports at home and abroad. They hosted Bangladesh-Zimbabwe cricket series marked by ‘whitewash or banglawash’.

Members of the Sobhan family had always been proactive and played significant roles in overall development of sports by infrastructure support, sponsoring and hosting mega events at home and abroad.
